Blepharoplasty – Eyelid Surgery

Technical name: aesthetic blepharoplasty
Body region: eyelids
Age: from the age of 40 generally
Anesthesia: local (in most cases)
Duration of surgery: on average, one and a half hours
Scar: almost imperceptible

Indication

Over time, the eyelid structures become loose, leading to an excess of skin and protrusion of the fat pockets that lie under the eyelids. These changes can be evidenced by the folds of the skin and the bulging of that region, giving a facial appearance of sadness and fatigue. Eyelid surgery corrects these changes by removing excess skin and reducing fat pockets, making the eyelids flatter and smoother, thus restoring a more cheerful and rested facial appearance.

Goal

Corrects excess skin, the presence of pouches (fat that leaves the eyes swollen) and muscle sagging in the region of the eyelids. At the same time, it seeks to beautify and rejuvenate the patient's face while maintaining the functional integrity of the eyelids.

Main Aspects

The surgery is done under local anesthesia.
Average duration of 90 minutes.
The final result can be verified in the third month.

Pre and post-operative care

Usually the postoperative is painless.

There is always formation of edema (swelling) and ecchymosis (red spots), which may vary in intensity. Usually disappear in the first or second week. In order for the formation of these to be minimized, ice packs of saline or boricated water are used in the first two postoperative days. Another important care is to avoid heat (very hot baths, cooking, etc.), which favor the formation of edema and ecchymoses. The sun should be avoided for three months (use of sunglasses).

The scars are disguised in the furrows of the eyes. For three months they are going through a maturation period. After the seventh day is allowed the use of makeup.

In general, every plastic surgery takes six months to the definitive result, because it is the time necessary for the maturation of the scar. In the case of blepharoplasties, 80% of the result can be achieved before, after three months.
